Glamping Pods With Hot Tub

Romantic glamping with hot tubs

A pod for two with its own tub is about the simplest good idea in British holidays. Getting it right comes down to three things. Privacy, timing and who has to light the fire.

Private has to mean private

Look for the words “private hot tub” or “sole use” in the listing. If it only says “hot tub on site”, assume you’re sharing it, and possibly booking a time slot. Our guide to private and shared hot tubs covers how to tell.

Then look at the photos for what’s around the tub. Is the next pod ten metres away? Is there a fence, a hedge, a view? Some sites are adults only, which answers the question of who’ll be in the next field.

Wood fired or electric

A wood fired tub is the romantic choice on paper. Flames, smoke, the smell of logs. It also takes between one and three hours to heat, according to hot tub retailer Layzee Living, and somebody has to feed it.

So here’s our view. For a single night, pick electric. It’s hot when you arrive and you get the whole evening. For two nights or more, wood fired is worth it, because lighting it becomes part of the day.

Pick your night

Midweek and outside the school holidays, sites are quieter and you’re less likely to have neighbours. If stars matter, check the moon before you book. A clear night with no moon in a dark sky area such as Wales, Yorkshire or Sussex is hard to beat.

Arrive in daylight. Finding a pod down a farm track in the dark, then working out an unfamiliar stove by phone torch, is nobody’s idea of a good start.

Where to look
