Where to base yourself
The north Norfolk coast is salt marsh, pine woods and enormous beaches. Holkham, Wells-next-the-Sea and Blakeney are the best known, and Cromer is the place for crab.
The Broads are a network of rivers and shallow lakes with the same level of protection as a national park. Boats, reeds, windmills and very little noise.
Breckland and Thetford Forest, on the Suffolk border, are pine forest and sandy heath. Good for bikes.
West Norfolk has the Sandringham estate and Hunstanton, which faces west across the Wash. It’s one of the few places on the east coast where you can watch the sun set over the sea.
The dry side of the country
East Anglia is among the driest parts of the UK. For hot tub glamping that means more evenings when you can sit out without a hood up. The trade off is wind. There’s nothing between you and the North Sea, so look for a pod with some shelter around the tub.
When to go
Summer is the obvious choice and the coast gets busy. Winter has its own draw. Grey seals come ashore to have their pups on this coast from November, and boat trips run from Blakeney and Morston to see the colony at Blakeney Point.
Getting there
Norfolk has no motorways. The A11 is dual carriageway most of the way from the M11 and the A47 runs east to west. Trains from London reach Norwich in around two hours, and a separate line serves King’s Lynn.
Good to know
The land is so flat that a bike is a real way of getting around, and plenty of sites will point you to somewhere that hires them. Coastal villages are small and dinner tables go quickly in summer, so book those when you book the pod.
